Hello Dave - your past has come back to haunt you, and it's your fault! I was looking up some stuff on Mastermind for a series of articles I was writing, and I found your blog about our final - then I found this one, so I thought I'd join and have a browse.

How is life after Mastermind treating you? I'm fine - I spend a lot of time in Spain now, and in the last year or two, I've built up quite a business as a freelance writer. Thanks for being so complimentary about our time on Mastermind. Going to explore the site a bit now. Sandra xx

Hi Dave - many thanks for your prompt and very helpful response. Like you, I also fit in to the middle aged, white, male demographic and I appreciate that the majority of contestants are from this category.

I'll take your advice on board and I will let you know if I am successful - although I attended a recent audition for a new show (show me the telly!) and I should find out this week if I will be cast in it. I had to withdraw from an audition for Tipping Point last year, as I was cast in Eggheads and the same thing could happen again this time!

Many thanks

Ian

Hi Dave - what advice can you give to an aspiring quiz show contestant, who would love to appear on one of the Saturday evening national lottery shows (in it to win it and who dares wins are both now looking for contestants) but is not flamboyantly camp or a loud mouthed extrovert - as a lot of contestants on these shows tend to be!

Is my best tactic to play down my level of knowledge and to try and 'inflate' my personality? There is a lot of easy money to be made on these shows but getting on them is significantly harder than facing any of the questions on the show!

Hello Dave,

I work for a statistics programme called More or Less on BBC Radio 4. One of our listeners has asked to investigate which is Britain's most difficult quiz show. There are some difficulties in comparing quizzes but I wondered whether you or any colleagues held any data or indeed any views on this?

Best wishes

Hi Clive
Welcome to my site, and thanks. It's a shame you didn't come over in Derby. Hopefully we'll be back next year - come on over and introduce yourself.

I've sent a more detailed email to you - let me know if you don't get it

Dave

HI Dave

I've been attending pub/club quizzes for over twenty years and have enjoyed reading your blog.

I was at the CIU final in Derby with the Malleable Club team, and intended to say hello but didn't get chance.

It was partially through reading about your adventures on Mastermind/Brain of Britain that I decided to take the plunge, leaving behind pub quizzes to take on the big hitters of quizzes. Thus, I applied for Brain of Britain, and despite extreme nervousness I managed to win my heat and am now looking forward to the semi-final in two weeks.

We'll have to see how it goes, but I'm definitely considering giving Mastermind a bash, and any tips from a previous champion would be most welcome.

Keep up the good work with the blog and thanks for the inspiration

Kind Regards

Clive
